EVENT DESCRIPTION:

The term “Veterans Law” often evokes thoughts of navigating the complicated bureaucracy of the Department of Veterans Affairs that feels like it requires a separate degree to understand. However, veterans represent a unique nexus of mental health and societal issues that present a wide variety of legal needs. Veterans are a disproportionate percentage of the homeless population. Predatory payday loan companies target veteran populations, causing veterans to be 4x more likely to fall prey to loan-sharking practices. Their time in service to our country has left seen and unseen scars on our veterans, making their transition out of the military into civilian life difficult and increasing their likelihood of divorce, contact with the criminal system, and complex estate planning problems. Veterans face a wide variety of issues that legal and mental health professionals are uniquely equipped to address.
