As Chief Financial Officer of the S.J. Quinney College of Law, Joshua Clayton serves as the Law School’s most senior financial leader, responsible for directing all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. He ensures compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements while maintaining the institution’s fiscal health. Josh plays a critical strategic role—analyzing financial performance, identifying opportunities and risks, and providing data-driven insights to guide the Dean and executive leadership team in long-term planning and sustainable decision-making. He also collaborates extensively with the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Office, Central Budget Office, Financial Services Offices, and other campus leaders to align financial strategy with institutional goals.
In addition to leading and advising faculty, staff, and students on financial processes, Joshua oversees core operational functions such as budget management, compensation and payroll, risk management, procurement and contracts, endowment reporting, and investment analysis. He also directs the strategic planning and budgeting of tuition, scholarships, donations, and other revenue streams, ensuring alignment with academic priorities and student success. Known for his analytical acumen and forward-looking approach, Josh partners with department heads to optimize resource allocation, manage cash flow, and implement cost-control initiatives that support both operational excellence and the Law School’s mission.
Prior to joining the Law School, Joshua earned his MBA from the David Eccles School of Business and brings over 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience spanning both higher education and healthcare sectors.
