University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law Professor Jorge Contreras’s recent commentary on the UK High Court (Patent) decision in Unwired Planet v. Huawei has been mentioned by several media outlets over the past week (PatentLYO, Comparative Patent Remedies). Contreras was quoted in Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) discussing the impact that the UK decision might have in the U.S. The case relates to the imposition of “fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory” (FRAND) royalties on patents essential to the 2G/3G/4G wireless telecommunications standards used by most smartphones and other mobile devices around the world.
