Hundreds of participants from around the globe watched the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law’s recent virtual conference on sexual abuse of athletes.
Notable speakers included former football player Jon Vaughn, who survived sexual abuse by a doctor at the University of Michigan and Tiffany Thomas-Lopez, who survived sexual abuse by Larry Nassar, a physician at Michigan State University who assaulted hundreds of gymnasts while employed for USA Gymnastics.
Other scholars explored legal issues related to ethics and victims’ rights during the day-long conference.
The event was be moderated in large part by University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law Professor Amos Guiora, the author of the newly published Armies of Enablers, which explores bystanders’ role in sexual abuse.
