SL Trib Reports on Rudd’s Senate Testimony Calling for New Mental Health Treatment for Vets

In a March 4, 2010 article, The Salt Lake Tribune reported on the issue of military suicides and quoted David Rudd, dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Science at the University of Utah and scientific director of the U’s National Center for Veterans Studies.

Rudd told a U.S. Senate panel that in the military culture of toughness, people with illnesses, particularly mental illnesses, are often considered weak. He advocated the adoption of new mental health strategies to counteract that stigma and also encouraged the VA to begin partnering with colleges to help veterans continue treatment after they retire from active service.
