August 23, 2013 — Clifford Rosky, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, is extensively quoted in a CBSDC story, “Law Professor: ‘The Supreme Court Will Grant Same-Sex Marriage In All 50 States’”. (He is also the law professor who makes the prediction quoted in the title.)
The wide-ranging article surveys the legal landscape after the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent invalidation of two pieces of legislation, the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as exclusively heterosexual, and California’s Prop. 8, which defined marriage as “a union between a man and a woman.”
Rosky is one of several sources in the article who discuss the current state of marriage equality and the future of same-sex unions. In the words of the article, “As a lawyer, and as a professor of law, I can say … that it’s perfectly clear what’s going to happen eventually. The Supreme Court will grant same-sex marriage in all 50 states. It’s just a question of which states, when,” Rosky said, highlighting the words of the Justices themselves to make his point. “”States’ rights were not why [the justices] said DOMA was unconstitutional. They said that DOMA violates equality and freedom of gay couples.”

More recently, on August 29, Rosky was quoted in a Salt Lake Tribune story, “IRS to treat same-sex marriages equally for tax purposes.”
Describing the federal policy announcement as a “big deal,” Rosky elaborated, ” “I don’t know if it will tip the scales for anyone to get married … but it’s clearly an incentive.”
