Clifford Rosky, associate professor of law at S.J. Quinney College of Law, participated in a debate titled “Common Ground or Sacred Ground? Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Rights in Utah” on February 19, 2009. The resolution is titled “Resolved: The Utah State Legislature should pass the Common Ground Initiative.”
On the pro side, panelists included Will Carlson, the Public Policy Manager of Equality Utah; Representative Scott McCoy of the Utah State Legislature; Lee Beckstead, a psychologist who studies reorientation therapy; and Professor Rosky.
On the con side, panelists included Paul Mero, President of the Sutherland Institute; William Duncan, Director of the Marriage Law Foundation; LaVar Christiansen, former Representative in the Utah State Legislature; and Shirley Cox, Field Education Director of BYU’s College of Family, Home and Social Sciences.
