Christopher Peterson, a Professor of Law at the University of Utah College of Law, was recently quoted in two separate articles.
On January 27, Peterson was quoted in the Los Angeles Times in a story about Ameriquest, once the nation’s largest subprime lender, pledging $22 million to repay up to 712,000 borrowers.
Peterson was also quoted in a February 3, Deseret News story, “Payday lenders suits swamp Utah courts.”
In the latter article, he criticized the high interest rates charged by payday lenders, noting that in the 1960s, the New York mafia charged an average of 250% interest—about half of what payday lenders in Utah charge today, according to Peterson.
