In a March 31 Salt Lake Tribune op-ed, Wayne McCormack, Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, asks, “Where does it say in the U.S. Constitution that socialism is prohibited or that capitalism is the established ideology of the nation?”
The op-ed was inspired, in part, by the publicity surrounding a painting by Provo artist Jon McNaughton that depicts President Obama burning the Constitution.
The op-ed blends constitutional analysis, history, and McCormack’s thoughtful comparison of capitalism and socialism. In the end, he concludes, “Good decisions along with bad ones will exist in both socialism and capitalism settings.”
