Johnson Presents on the Financial Overhaul Bill

On August 3, Christian Johnson, a professor of law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, was a panelist in the West Publishing Webcast titled The Derivatives Market after the Financial Overhaul. Johnson’s portion of the discussion was titled “Clearing, Exchange Trading and Margining of OTC Derivatives under the Dodd-Frank Act.” In the program, he focused on the effect of the new act on a corporation’s ability to hedge its risks using OTC derivatives, discussing the key exemption for commercial companies from the clearing and exchange trading requirement.   His comments build on many of the issues that Professor Johnson discussed in his December article titled “The Enigma of Clearing Buy Side OTC Derivatives.”
