In D.C. Presentation to Nigerian Jurists, Johnson Focuses on Roots of Financial Crises

On April 22 and 23, Professor Christian Johnson presented a two-day Program titled “Troubled Asset Resolution – National Economic Objectives” to a group of 30 Nigerian judges, regulators and lawyers in Washington D.C.  The participants included the Chief Justice from the Nigerian Appellate Court and from the Nigerian High Court (their trial level court), representatives from AMCON (the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria) and several prominent lawyers. The program was focused on the causes of financial crises and various solutions. In particular, it dealt with the effect of the Great Financial Crisis on Nigeria and the role of AMCON in dealing with problem loans.  It also dealt with the appropriate role of the judiciary in national economic development and in dealing with social issues.
