College of Law Welcomes New Law Library Director Melissa Bernstein

June 7, 2012— The University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law announced today that Melissa Bernstein will be the college’s new Law Library Director, effective July 1,  2012.

Bernstein holds a B.A. in Economics from Wellesley College, a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from the Pratt Institute, School of Information and Library Science.  Since 2006, she has served in various capacities, including Faculty Services Coordinator, Head of Student Services, and Reference Librarian, at the Tarlton Law Library, University of Texas School of Law.

“We are thrilled to welcome Melissa as our new Law Library Director,” said Dean Hiram Chodosh. “With her demonstrated history of innovations, she will continue to build on the excellent programs and practices introduced by current Law Library Director Rita Reusch, who is retiring after 26 years of leadership at the College of Law.”

“Given that I am coming from a larger school, I look forward to having the opportunity to form strong personal relationships within the S.J. Quinney College of Law Community,” Bernstein said. “I am eager to work with the students and faculty to find innovative ways to enhance the legal education experience.  I am excited to be involved with the new building project for the law school; my experiences as a practicing attorney and at the Tarlton Law Library have provided me with a good sense of what is needed to successfully educate and support attorneys both today and in the future. I am honored to continue the tradition of excellence fostered by Professor Reusch.”
