Emily Chiang, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, will participate in a panel discussion on indigent defense to be held April 1 at the downtown Salt Lake City Public Library, located at 210 E. 400 South.
The panel discussion will following the 6:30 p.m. screening of the award-winning documentary Gideon’s Army. Jesse Nix, president of the Utah Minority Bar Association, will moderate the discussion. Joining Chiang on the panel will be John Mejia, Legal Director for the ACLU of Utah, and others are expected to participate as well.
Chiang said, “I really hope people join us for this film screening, which should be both entertaining and edifying. It is the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Gideon v. Wainwright and there has never been a better time to talk about the right to counsel here in Utah.”
