Paul Cassell, Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, was interviewed by KSL 5 and The Salt Lake Tribune about his defense of a former West Valley City police detective who was charged with manslaughter after he shot and killed a woman during an undercover drug investigation.
Cassell wrote that he was joining the detective’s defense team because “of my concern that a guilty verdict in this case will jeopardize the safety of the community by making police officers fearful of defending themselves against criminals who are themselves threatening deadly force.”
