David Rudd, dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Science at the University of Utah and scientific director of the U’s National Center for Veterans Studies, was quoted in a March 4, 2010 article about a U.S. Senate hearing on the issue of suicide among veterans.
Rudd told the U.S. Senate Veterans Affairs Committee that he believes long-term treatment is key to helping veterans who are considering suicide and also stated that he believed VA care should expand to include college campuses. “VA will need to go to where the veterans are in order to reach the 70 percent hesitant to seek care,” he told the committee.
