For the second year in a row, the Wallace Stegner Center has convened the annual Pan-Pacific Sustainability Scholars Workshop in partnership with the University of Hawai’i Richardson School of Law, the Seoul National University Center for Energy and Environmental Law and Policy, and the University of Sydney Law School.
The workshop brings together a community of scholars from across disciplines who research sustainability issues connected to the Pacific region, including energy, climate, weather, indigenous rights, wildfire risk, and natural resources. The series is designed to build community and facilitate new research collaborations among participants.
The inaugural workshop was hosted by the Stegner Center at the S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2025. This year the workshop took place at the University of Sydney and welcomed approximately 30 scholars from across the broader Pacific region, including Australia, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore and the United States.
“We are deeply grateful for this incredible, generous group of scholars who are invariably supportive of each other and who work to make the world a better place,” said Prof. Lincoln Davies, co-director of the Stegner Center. “We also convey our profound thanks to our hosts this year at the University of Sydney Law School for welcoming this collective with such warmth, and for helping ensure an incredibly generative workshop.”
The 2027 workshop will take place in Honolulu.
