Professor Tony Anghie was awarded an honorary doctorate in law by the European University Institute in recognition of his outstanding contribution to international law.
“Professor Anghie’s scholarship has transformed how international law understands its own history. By showing how the colonial encounter shaped the discipline and continues to influence today’s global legal order, his work has fundamentally changed the way generations of scholars approach the field. Through his pioneering role in Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL), he has also opened new ways of thinking about international law and amplified voices that had long remained at its margins,” European University Institute said in a statement about the award.
