Professor Brigham DanielsProfessor Brigham Daniels, who co-directs the Wallace Stegner Center for Land, Resources and the Environment, has written a book called “Lessons for a Warming Planet: A Vital History of U.S. Environmental Law” with Professor Alejandro E. Camacho of UCLA School of Law.

The book explains the role law has served in reckoning with U.S. environmental harm and explores environmental legal history in the United States across five major periods, beginning with North America’s colonization. “Lessons for a Warming Planet” also considers the ways leadership, social movements, political coalitions, information, and technologies have been catalyzed by advanced environmental change and the law.

Earth Day invites us to reflect not only on the challenges we face, but also on the tools we have to address them,” Daniels said. “This book looks to history to better understand how law can help society respond to complex environmental problems like climate change.”
