Associate Professor Jamie Pleune has been appointed by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland to serve as alternate public-at-large representative on the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Public Lands Rule Resource Advisory Committee. This prestigious appointment highlights Pleune’s commitment to environmental stewardship and her expertise in public lands policy.
In this role, Pleune will represent the interests of the public at large, contributing her insights to support the BLM’s implementation of its Public Lands Rule. The advisory committee’s purpose is to provide the BLM balanced and inclusive guidance, ensuring that decisions about public land management serve the interests of all stakeholders.
Professor Pleune serves as a research fellow in the Wallace Stegner Center for Land, Resources and the Environment’s Law and Policy program. Her work focuses on issues of climate change, conservation, permitting, and public lands management. Pleune’s appointment underscores the vital role that academic expertise plays in shaping national environmental policies.

The BLM Public Lands Rule Resource Advisory Committee, established in 2024, comprises members from diverse backgrounds, including conservationists, industry leaders, tribal representatives, and other stakeholders. The committee meets two to four times annually and plays a crucial role in advising the BLM on outreach and engagement strategies tied to the Public Lands Rule.
