Utah Celebrates Pro Bono 2012

October 22nd-October 26th

Monday: Utah Celebrates Pro Bono Kick Off-

12:15-1:30 p.m., Moot Courtroom, Stewart Ralphs, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake City. Law students encouraged to attend along with all legal professionals from the legal community. Lori W. Nelson, Utah State Bar President will be presenting the program. Lunch provided.

Mr. Ralphs received his JD from the University of Utah College of Law in 1990 and joined Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake in 1991 where he has been a Domestic Relations attorney, director of the Domestic Violence Victim Assistance Program for two years and Executive Director since 1994.  Stewart has been a faithful participant as a volunteer supervising attorney and supporter of the Pro Bono Initiative’s Family Law Clinic since its inception.  Mr. Ralphs is active in public policy and legislative issues.

Tuesday: Professor Pro Bono Brown Bag, 12:15-1:00 p.m., Moot Courtroom. Professors Michael Teter, Troy L. Booher, and Jensie Anderson, from the College of Law will speak about Pro Bono experiences. Lunch provided.

Tuesday Evening: Free Legal Blitz, Street Law Legal Clinic, Sign-up to participate through John Wiethorn, 3L law student: john.wiethorn@law.utah.edu

Wednesday: Serving the Needy through the Clinical Program, 12:15-1:30 p.m., Room 107. Clinical Field supervisors will come discuss pro bono service while getting academic credit. Laura Boswell, Attorney at Disability Law Center, Yvette Rodier, Attorney at Utah Crime Victims Legal Clinic, and Sue Crismon, Attorney at Utah Legal Services will be the guest speakers for this program. Linda Smith will then share information about Spring Clinics.

Wednesday: S.J. Quinney Pro Bono Bake Sale, 11:00-3:00 p.m., Rosenblatt Foyer. If you would like to bring something to contribute, please sign up in the front office. All proceeds go directly to PBI.

Thursday Evening: Free Legal Blitz, Debtor’s Counseling Legal Clinic, Sign-up to participate through Eddie Prignano, 2L Edward.Prignano@law.utah.edu
