Available to: 2nd and 3rd year students
The Mediation Clinic enables students to acquire the skills of mediators through study, mock exercises, observations and actual practice in supervised settings.
Prerequisite: Mediation & Advanced Negotiation (3 cr., graded, Spring) teaches effective high-conflict communication, advanced negotiation theory and skills, and basic facilitation and mediator skills, and satisfies the minimum education requirement for membership on the mediator roster of the Utah State Court ADR program.
Placement: (1 cr., P/F, every semester) to be taken concurrently or following course. Opportunities may include housing, discrimination, family, juvenile offender, small claims, high school conflicts and other simple disputes.
Registration & Placement: To enroll in the clinic, students must complete the Clinical Program Application Form. Students then consult with Professor Smith regarding their preferred placement. Students will then be enrolled in the clinic. This is a limited-enrollment clinic.
