Equal Opportunity Policy

Professional Development Office Equal Opportunity Policy
The S.J. Quinney Utah College of Law at the University of Utah supports the policy of equal employment opportunity as set forth in Section 6.3(b) of the Bylaws of the Association of American Law Schools: “A member school shall pursue a policy of providing its students and graduates with equal opportunity to obtain employment, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, handicap or disability, or sexual orientation. A member school shall communicate to each employer to whom it furnishes assistance and facilities for interviewing and other placement functions the school’s firm expectation that the employer will observe the principle of equal opportunity.”

Unfortunately, inappropriate interviewing behavior is still a reality, and illegal or unacceptable inquiries, behavior or considerations too often continue to enter into recruiting activities and decisions. The S.J. Quinney College of Law Professional Development Office deplores discrimination and unfair employment and placement practices whenever and wherever they occur. Such practices taint the recruiting process and undermine the ethical foundations of the legal profession. We urge anyone using our resources to report illegal or discriminatory hiring practices to us by any means practicable.

Please write or call the PDO Director, Jess Hofberger at Jess.Hofberger@law.utah.edu or 801-581-8700 to report unlawful employment practices.
