ABA Negotiation Competition—Region 8, Competition Agenda
November 4 & 5, 2017
Exact rooms scheduled at the S.J. Quinney College of Law will be determined at a date closer to the regional meet.

Saturday Morning Schedule
8:00-8:55   Welcome & Orientation
(Judges check-in by 8:15, Competitor Teams Orientation starts promptly at 8:30)
8:30-8:55   Judges’ Briefing/Team Orientation Session
(Judges and competitors go to competitions rooms, final conflict check conducted)
9:00-9:50   Negotiations for first set of teams
9:50-10:20   Self-analysis, preparation & one 10-minute session per each team with judges
10:20-10:40 Scoring & Feedback, judges complete score & comment sheets and then provide feedback to both teams simultaneously

10:40-10:45   BREAK

10:45-11:35   Negotiations for second set of teams
11:35-12:05   Self-analysis, preparation & one 10-minute session per each team with judges
12:05-12:20  Judges complete ranking sheets, score sheets, and decide on final ranking of teams.
12:20-12:30  Judges provide feedback to both teams simultaneously, comment sheets collected and distributed to competitors at a later time.

Saturday Afternoon Schedule
12:30-2:00   BREAK for Lunch, Scoring

(Judges check-in by 1:45 at the latest)
2:00-2:25   Judges’ Briefing
(Judges and competitors go to competitions rooms, final conflict check conducted)
2:30-3:20   Negotiations for first set of teams of afternoon round.
3:20-3:50   Self-analysis, preparation & one 10-minute session per each team with judges
3:50-4:10   Scoring & Feedback, judges complete score & comment sheets and then provide feedback to both teams simultaneously

4:10-4:15   BREAK

4:15-5:05   Negotiations for second set of teams
5:05-5:35   Self-analysis, preparation & one 10-minute session per each team with judges
5:35-5:50   Judges complete ranking sheets, score sheets, and decide on final ranking of teams.
5:50-6:00  Judges provide feedback to both teams simultaneously, comment sheets collected and distributed to competitors after the four finalists are announced.

6:00PM   RECEPTION, finalists are announced for Sunday’s round at approximately 6:30PM

Sunday Morning Schedule
Format will be similar to Saturday morning format with the final round and two advancing teams announced at approximately 1PM, competition will end.


Directions and Travel
The University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law is located at 383 S. University Street in Salt Lake City. This is approximately 400 South and 1400 East, NE corner of University St. and South Campus Dr. and north, across the street from Rice Eccles Football Stadium Parking Lot.

The Salt Lake Int’l Airport is the nearest airport to the College of Law. If driving, directions to the College of Law may be found here.

Parking and Transportation
The University of Utah provides pay lots and meters for visitor parking, but enforces permit requirements Mon.-Fri., 6AM-8PM. We will have some reserved spots if you arrive in town early on Friday and would like to come up and visit our building and campus. Most campus lots are open parking on Saturday and Sunday. The lots nearest the College of Law will be available for use. Reserved and special arrangement spaces will be marked.

Public transit options are conveniently located close to the College of Law. The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) has several bus routes that run in front of the building and a light rail station one block to the south. For schedules and route information, please visit UTA’s website. If coming from the airport, catching the TRAX (light rail) Green Line to the Courthouse Station downtown and transferring to the TRAX Red Line to the University Medical Center will bring you directly to the College of Law if you exit at the Stadium Station. It is approximately $2.50/person for one-way trip.

Uber and Lyft rides are available and can be accessed through the mobile app. There are several Taxi Companies also available and rides may be arranged via phone call.

If you are staying at the University Guest House, you may also use the campus shuttles to ride to the College of Law, a live map and locations is available here.

Hotels and Lodging
There are several hotel options in downtown Salt Lake City that are close to the College of Law, we recommend the Radisson or the Guest House for rates and location.

Food and Places to Eat
One block north and west on 1300 East are several close restaurants:

There are also plenty of places to eat downtown and along 400 South in Salt Lake.
