Loading Dock Manager
Director of Administrative Services
Kathleen Morgan Squires came to the College of Law in 1992 as director of Administrative Services and is responsible for overseeing law school operations including staff support and the facility “Especially the loading dock and bathrooms,” she says, tongue-in-cheek. “More seriously, I do everything from recruiting, hiring, and training staff to approving purchases and helping plan and design new spaces—hopefully that will include a new building soon.”
Morgan Squires previously served as administrative operations coordinator with the San Diego State University Rehabilitation Continuing Education Program. In that role, her duties included preparing grant proposals, managing the program staff and overseeing the budget. She was also area manager for the University of Alaska Computer Network in Juneau, Alaska. Besides enduring the cold and rain, in that position she managed administrative computer services for the Sitka, Ketchikan and Juneau campuses, working closely with the registrars and librarians at each site.
Morgan Squires gained her early computer experience while working as a project coordinator for the Alaska Division of Vocational Rehabilitation when she researched, selected and coordinated the implementation of the division’s first statewide microcomputer system. Providing software and operational computer assistance remains her favorite sideline at the Quinney College because it usually results in a quick solution to a perplexing problem.
Of her early experiences, she notes that she was fortunate to have an excellent manager and mentor who taught her the value of treating everyone with respect and with an eye to their potential. She puts those lessons to good use at the Quinney College through her manifold responsibilities, which include coordinating with many University offices and outside vendors to secure assistance and services for the law school. “Flexibility has been an important quality in working with three different [law school] deans with three different management approaches. Each dean has been fabulous in their own unique way, and it has been a privilege for me to serve them.”
Morgan Squires graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in history and Spanish. She is an avid quilter, gardener and hiker, and with her husband, Tom, is the proud companion of a spirited Airedale.
