Pro Bono Initiative: Free Brief Advice Legal Clinics

The purpose of our Free Brief Advice Legal Clinics is to provide brief one-on-one instruction & assistance to low-income Utahns who cannot afford legal representation. Legal volunteers cannot file for you or appear in court on your behalf. The Free Brief Advice Legal Clinics are open to any low-income Utahn on a first-come first-serve basis. Please be aware we do not make appointments. All Free Brief Advice Legal Clinics are staffed by volunteer law students and volunteer on-site supervising attorneys.  Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the closing time at each clinic or you will not be seen and will have to attend the next clinic. 

American Indian Free Legal Clinic
Area of Law: Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), Tribal Land, Family Claim issues, etc.
When: 4th Monday of each month.
Time: 5 pm – 7 pm.
Location: Urban Indian Walk-In Center.

Debtor’s Counseling Legal Clinic
Areas of Law: Bankruptcy, collections, credit issues.
When: 4th Thursday of each month.
Time: 6 pm – 8 pm.
Location: Salt Lake City Public Library.
400 South 210 East in Salt Lake City.

NEW:  Expungement Free Legal Clinic (impediments to employment)
Area of Law: Impediments to employment, such as expungements and addressing issues regarding outstanding warrants only.
When: 1st Thursday of every month.
Time: 5 pm – 7 pm  Please plan to arrive no later than 6:30 pm.  The building closes promptly at 7 pm.
Location: LDS Employment Center.

Layton Family Law Free Clinic: Closed & moving locations.  Until our new location opens, please attend the Utah Legal Service Free Clinic.
Areas of Law: Family Law, child custody, divorce, protective orders.
When:  1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month
Time:  1 pm – 3 pm
Location:  Second District Court, 800 West State Street in Layton

Areas of Law: Family Law, child custody, divorce, protective orders.
When:  1st & 3rd Wednesdays of each month.
Time:  6 pm – 8 pm.
Location:  Matheson Courthouse in Room W-19.

Immigration Law Free Clinic
Areas of Law: Immigration, citizenship, documentation status, deportation, visa, etc.

Medical-Legal Clinic
Areas of Law: Landlord-Tenant issues related to healthcare and accommodations.
When:  4th Friday of each month.
Where:  South Main Health Center 3690 South Main Street in Salt Lake City.
Appointments can be made after your health check up or you can walk-in.

Rainbow Law Free Clinic
Areas of Law: LGBT legal issues related to employment, estate planning, family law, etc.
When:  2nd Thursday of every month.
Time:  6 pm- 8 pm.
Location: Utah Pride Center.
