Fred Anderson, a professor at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law from 1980-1985, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014. Anderson left the College of Law to become Dean of the American University Washington College of Law. He later became a partner at McKenna, Long & Aldridge. Prior to arriving in Utah, he was the first president of the Environmental Law Institute, where among his many other accomplishments he authored the influential environmental law book NEPA in the Courts. He also published a novel and numerous articles on policy, environmental law, and other topics. Anderson was the founding chair of both the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) and the Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development.
Anderson passed away peacefully with his wife Barbara and daughter Molly at his side.
