Turn on the Windows Firewall

To check if the Microsoft Windows Firewall is turned on:

  1. Click on the “Start” button
  2. Click on “Control Panel
  3. Click on “Security Center” (If you don’t see this then you probably don’t have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed. You can download this from Microsoft’s website for free at www.update.microsoft.com).

Note that for the Firewall field, it will say ON or OFF.

If it is off and you want to turn it on (which we highly recommend you do):

  1. Click on “Windows Firewall” at the bottom
  2. Click on “On (recommended)
  3. Then click “OK

NOTE: Windows XP SP2 firewall default settings will not interfere with Exam4 or student network services (printing, N-drive, email, etc).
