System disk maintenance

Disk Utility (Mac OS X):

  1. In the finder, click on Go->Utilities. Or simply hold down shift + command + U.
  2. Next click on Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
  3. Click on Macintosh HD (or whatever you labeled your main hard drive as).
  4. Select Repair Disk Permissions.
  5. Next select Verify Disk. If there are any errors, proceed to the next step. If not, you are finished.
  6. Put the System Disk in your Dvd drive which came with your computer.
  7. Restart your computer and hold down the “c” button until you see an Apple appear in the middle of the screen.
  8. When the application loads, click on the Utilities tab up in the menu.
  9. Select Disk Utility.
  10. Within Disk Utility, select Repair Disk.
