Training Leaders to Confront the Issues of Our Time

Mac Email Clients NOT working with Umail

On the weekend of September 17, the campus Umail team made some necessary changes to the campus email servers as the project to upgrade the entire campus email service moves forward.  Although these changes may seem like one huge hassle, this change is actually an indicator of progress.

That said, many of the Mac email clients were broken during this process and left unable to connect to the email servers to retrieve or send email.  We have a simple fix for you here.  There are two files on this page to download.  One is the file to “fix” the problem introduced on September 17 and the other is to “undo” the fix at a later time – yes it will be broken during step 2 of the project but you will be notified ahead of time.

Here is the file that fixes the problem you may be experiencing now (since September 17)

The instructions for using the file are simple:

  1. save the file (if you are asked)
  2. double click to unzip the file
  3. double click on the file to run the script
  4. You are finished.
Your mail and iCal client on your Mac should now work fine.

Now for the “undo” part

As the project of moving to new Umail servers continues, everyone with an @law.utah.edu email address will be scheduled at some time in the future to be moved to the new servers.  This process will unfortunately break the “fix” applied above.

To solve this, we have provided an “undo” script to make things work again.  Here is the file you need to download to once again fix your mail connection.

The instructions for using the file are simple:

  1. save the file (if you are asked)
  2. double click to unzip the file
  3. double click on the file to run the script
