How to add your gmail account to Outlook

GMail in Outlook

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could check both your Law School email and your GMail from the same place? The answer is yes. Let’s find out how.

1. Open Outlook.
2. Go to Tools, then Account Settings…

A new window appears with a lot of tabs. You should already be on the E-Mail tab.

3. Click on New…
4. Make sure that Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP is selected and hit Next.
5. Fill in the boxes, and make sure that Manually configure server settings… is checked!
Your window will look something like this:
Example!

6. On the next window, make sure Internet E-Mail is selected and mash Next.
7. Fill out the next screen like this: (but don’t mash Next yet!)
Use your own name and email, of course.
Example 2!

When you’re done, click on More Settings…

8. On the new, smaller window, click on the Advanced tab and fill it out just like this: (Don’t hit OK yet, though.)
Example!

9. Now click on the Outgoing Server tab and check the box labeled My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Like this:

Example!
Now hit OK.

10. Now push Next, then Finish, then Close.
Your GMail account will show up underneath your main account in Outlook!
(Or it will be your only account if you hadn’t already set one up before doing this.)
