Kevin Reid Murray

Kevin Murray is a partner in the Environment, Energy and Resources department at Chapman and Cutler LLP. Mr. Murray has successfully represented a large variety of private and public clients on a broad range of matters before administrative agencies, regulatory commissions, and legislative bodies. He has substantial experience with energy, mining, manufacturing, and other industrial facility siting, permitting, and compliance issues. He regularly assists in the merger, acquisition and development of energy, mining, and land development assets, through the identification and management of environmental liabilities and regulatory compliance issues including in particular mining, electric generation, natural gas and hazardous liquids pipelines.

Mr. Murray has experience with solid and hazardous (and radioactive) waste generation, treatment, and disposal, and issues under the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. Mr. Murray has played industry-leading roles in the acquisition, management, and redevelopment of environmentally sensitive properties, including dozens of NPL-listed Superfund sites and a variety of other listed and non-listed brownfields properties. He has led private and municipal efforts leading to the redevelopment of thousands of acres of properties that now support residential, industrial, commercial, and recreational uses. Mr. Murray has experience with environmental transactions in all fifty of the United States and in Europe, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kenya, Brazil and Canada. Mr. Murray is an Adjunct Professor of Law at both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. At BYU he has taught Real Estate Development since 1990. He teaches Real Estate Transfer Finance and Development at the University of Utah School of Law. He was honored as the Distinguished Alumni of Uintah High School in 2005. Mr. Murray was a board member for Lakeview Hospital from 2000-2005 and in 2005 he was also Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Hospital. In May 2005, he was appointed to the Board of Utah Solid and Hazardous Waste Control. From 1994-2000 Mr. Murray was on the Bountiful City Board of Adjustment. In May 2006, Mr. Murray was named Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Davis Education Foundation of the Davis County School District to serve a 2-year term; he served a 2-year term as Vice Chair of the foundation from May 2004 to May 2006. At the same time, he was also appointed to the Board of Trustees for Pioneer Theatre Company. Mr. Murray is recognized by Martindale-Hubbell with an AV Lawyer Rating, by Woodward and White as one of the Best Lawyers in America for over ten continuous years, and as part of the Utah Legal Elite. He was named to "Rocky Mountain Super Lawyer" in 2007 and 2008. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Murray was a partner at Mabey & Murray LC (formerly the Utah office of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, L.L.P.) in Salt Lake City, Utah
