Kay Shelton
Associate Director, Clinical Program
Kay Shelton, the Associate Director of the Clinical Program at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, began working at the University of Utah in 2006. Prior to joining the Clinical Program staff in 2010, Kay worked in graduate admissions at the business school, followed by three years as the law school’s career counselor. The favorite parts of her job are working with students to find a good fit for their clinical placements and reading their clinic reports. “It’s amazing to see what the students do and learn in clinics and how this shapes how they want to practice law.”
Being part of the larger University of Utah community is important to Kay, and she has volunteered enthusiastically on the University of Utah Staff Council, including one year on the Executive Board, and on the University Health and Safety Committee. Kay has also been involved in starting the College of Law’s Green Team, which will promote activities to help the law school with its sustainability goals.
For fun, Kay loves to travel, especially “off the beaten path” vacations. She takes frequent short trips to Walla Walla Washington to work on her family’s farm. “The wheat fields around Walla Walla can be described as Van Gogh country”, she says, “and visiting Walla Walla reminds me of Napa or Sonoma California in the eighties.”
