Hiram E. Chodosh
Dean and Hugh B. Brown Presidential Professor of Law
As the Hugh B. Brown Endowed Presidential Professor of Law, Hiram Chodosh serves as Dean of the College of Law and Senior Presidential Adviser on Global Strategy at the University of Utah. Dean Chodosh is a leading expert in institutional justice reform, and author of six books (including two forthcoming) and sixty major articles, book chapters, and special reports. He is also the editor of Law Across Borders with Aspen Publishers and Iraq Law and Policy with Oxford University Press. He has served as a Senior Fulbright Scholar in India and as an adviser to the UNDP in Asia, the World Bank Justice Reform Group, the IMF Legal Department, the State Department, and many supreme courts, ministries, and commissions in the Middle East and Asia. He directed the Global Justice Project: Iraq, an advisory think tank in Baghdad. Dean Chodosh is well known for designing and implementing innovative educational models to expand leadership experiences for students, interdisciplinary research projects, clinical and simulated skills training, the use of technology, and global legal education.
Chodosh received his J.D. from Yale Law School and his B.A. from Wesleyan University. Prior to his appointment as Dean of the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2006, Dean Chodosh served as the Hostetler Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he also directed the Frederick K. Cox International Law Center and received the Distinguished Teacher Award in 2000. More recently, he was named by the Gandhi Alliance for Peace and Justice as the recipient of the Gandhi Peace Award for 2011.
