Emily Chiang's Biography Photo

Associate Professor of Law

Professor Chiang received her B.A. from Yale University and her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she was a primary editor for the Harvard Law Review. She spent several years doing complex civil litigation at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York City and, while at Cravath, was a member of the legal team that successfully procured indigent defense reform in Montana. She then worked as a civil rights lawyer for the Brennan Center for Justice at N.Y.U. School of Law, and for the American Civil Liberities Union National Legal Department, where she successfully sued the Atlanta public school system over an alternative school that had been outsourced to a private for-profit company.

Professor Chiang joined the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2009 to build a civil rights clinic. She teaches a Civil Rights Practicum, Lawyering Skills, and Constitutional Law II.
