Scaling Wind, a New Documentary Film Screening
Scaling Wind is a half hour documentary that addresses the primary barriers to America achieving 20% of its electricity generation from wind energy. Drawing from the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2008 report, “20 Percent Wind Energy by 2030″ (www.20percentwind.org), the film profiles people working to overcome the challenges facing achievement of the 20% vision, including the need to modernize and expand the power grid and smarten the nation’s energy policy for a stable market. Edwin Stafford, Ph.D., is a professor of marketing, researcher, public speaker, news commentary writer, and documentary film producer whose work centers on sustainable entrepreneurship and the marketing of renewable energy and clean technology.
As an innovation in case research, Ed has co-produced and co-written two peer-reviewed research documentary shorts, “Wind Uprising” and “Scaling Wind,” with his colleagues Cathy Hartman (emeritus, Utah State University) and Michelle Nunez (GreenTech Films). “Scaling Wind” premiered in November 2013 at the Intermountain Bioneers Conference, and it explains how America may procure 20 percent of its electricity from wind energy (up from less than four percent today) through smart, stable energy policy and transmission development.
