A reporter and photographer from the Daily Utah Chronicle were kind enough to come and cover our event.  The published story never mentions the Federalist Society or even shows a law student but it at least adds a much needed element of true diversity to our school paper.  Here's the story:

ConSource: Constitutional Cross Referencing

Tags: student org

On October 10, 2008, Eleesha Tucker, the National Volunteer Coordinator for ConSource (www.consource.org), discussed ways in which law students can get involved in Constitutional Cross Referencing.  Members from both the Federalist Society and American Constitution Society attended to express interest and learn more about these forthcoming opportunities.

Eleesha is currently working with our Pro Bono Initiative office to establish a way for law students to get pro bono hours for CCRing.  Details on pro bono opportunities should be finalized by October 16, 2008.

Additionally, we discussed the possibility of creating a CCR seminar that 2L or 3L students would be able to get credit for next year.  To accomplish this, interested students should first contact Ryan White or Eldon Beck.  After enough students have expressed an interest in arranging this seminar, we will seek out a professor with ConSource connections who would be willing to take on another project.  We hope that with sufficient student interest, either Prof. Cassell, Matheson, or McConnell will serve as our faculty advisor.  To finalize the process, we will write and submit a proposal to the curriculum committee for approval.

Judge J. Clifford Wallace, senior judge on the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, addressed us on October 3, 2008.  He used half his time to discuss the differences between judicial activism and restraint and explain why he adheres to the principles of judicial restraint.  He spent the latter part of his time responding to student questions.  Please enjoy this video of his remarks.
