Hinckley International Clinic
Available to: 2nd and 3rd year students
The Hinckley Institute of Politics International Program currently places students in full-time internships in key locations in more than 35 countries. The goal of the international program is to provide students with experience in global public policy, service, business, and politics as well as to foster greater understanding among peoples, cultures, and governments. Course: Students will take HNKLY 6910 Internship: Graduate International (3 cr./graded) , syllabus: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1724917/Syllabus%20-%20POLS%206910%206911%20GRADUATE%20LAW.docx. The course includes readings pertinent to the internship placement, a book review, research paper, reflective essay, and weekly emails to the Clinical Program and Hinckley Institute of Politics. The supervisor evaluation of the intern is 30% of the student’s grade.
Placements: Hinckley International Clinic interns have opportunities to participate in global affairs, international relations, government, and nonprofit work.
3L students: Clinical credit available from 2 cr./100 hours of work to 9 cr./450 hours of work upon Clinical Program approval of the specific placement Hinckley assigns and whether the student has completed relevant International Clinic prerequisites (see Clinical Program website: http://www.law.utah.edu/clinic/clinic-list/the-international-clinic/.)
2L students: Clinical credit available from 2 cr./100 hours of work to 5 cr./250 hours of work.
The Hinckley Institute may allow a student to set up his own internship placement. Students who arrange their own placements should submit a proposal to Courtney McBeth at the Hinckley Institute with other application materials.

Registration: To register for the Hinckley course, students must obtain a registration permission number from Courtney McBeth at the Hinckley Institute and complete the “Petition for Non-Law School Credit” form http://www.law.utah.edu/wp-content/uploads/Credit-for-Non-Law-current.pdf. Chris Pezely, College of Law registrar, will arrange registration after student gives her the completed form and permission number. Students must make a “B” or better for the course to count towards the student’s law school graduation requirements. To enroll in the clinic, students must complete the Clinical Program Application Form after their placement has been confirmed by the Hinckley Institute.
