What does this mean to me as a practicing attorney?

Project Request Form (pdf)

The PBI staff actively seeks a broad range of pro bono opportunities for our volunteer students. If you are an attorney who advocates for low-income and disadvantaged Utahns and are interested in the prospect of working with one of our law student volunteers, please contact us. Students can do client intake and interviewing, fact investigation, legal research and writing, and third-year students are qualified for some courtroom work. The PBI places students with legal services attorneys and with pro bono attorneys. Law students can work in your office on a weekly basis throughout the semester or help you with a specific case or project over a longer period of time. As you make arrangements to work with volunteers in your office, please be aware of these general guidelines:
  1. Most law students can only volunteer 3-5 hours per week and can make commitments only on a semester-by-semester basis.
  2. The Pro Bono Initiative does most of its recruiting at the beginning of each semester. Please submit your request by mid-August for fall, late November for spring, and early April for summer.
  3. It is essential that you supervise and mentor your volunteers. If you do not, neither of you will get much of substance out of the experience.
If you are ready to submit a volunteer request form now, you may apply by downloading, filling out the blank project request form, then faxing it to 801.581.6897 (attention JoLynn Spruance). A PBI coordinator will contact you once the request has been recevied.

Contact JoLynn Spruance at 801.581.5418 or send us a message you have any questions or comments or if you need further information.
